You can craft spears from planks, so that means you can either destroy/disassemble doors & furniture for extra spears, or make the zombies do it. Spears don't knock zombies down, so speed is very important. Get some points in Nimble if you can (like via the Gymnast trait) and be very mindful of the clothes you wear.
